Korea was invaded by Japan, and in 1945, at the end of World War II, Japan lost the battle, Korea was temporarily divided into North and South Korea, awaiting reunification.

During the Vietnam War, 1954-1975, there were 591 American prisoners of war were captured and held in Hoa Lo prison, Hanoi. Most American POWs in Vietnam, at Hilton Hanoi, were American pilots who flew and dropped  bombs over Hanoi and North Vietnam. The only female French prisoner at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954- nurse Geneviève de Gallard

On the afternoon of May 7, 1954, we ended the Dien Bien Phu campaign by destroying the entire Dien Bien Phu Group of fortresses and capturing alive all the French troops, including the headquarters and all the garrison troops stationed in the area.  Among those prisoners, there was a rather special person, who was the only female prisoner of war but received the privilege of President Ho Chi Minh, was released the earliest and carried heavy affection for Vietnam until the end of his life. Background

In June 1940, France was invaded by Germany, and France surrendered quickly. The Japanese army took advantage of this opportunity and invaded Indochina. In September 1940, the French army in Indochina had to agree for Japan to share the rule of three Indochina countries, Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos. I teach Vietnamese at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

The first time I visited the school’s library, I saw a large glass cabinet in the entrance hall, inside there were a few books that seemed like old books. I stopped by to see if there was anything interesting, and was surprised to see a book with some Vietnamese-sounding words, a very old book.
