“On the occasion of foreign journalists asking, I would like to publicly publish my answer for my compatriots at home and foreign dignitaries to know:

1- I absolutely do not desire fame and fortune at all. Now that I have to take on the position of President because my compatriots have entrusted me, I must try my best, just like a soldier obeying the orders of the nation to go to the front. Whenever my compatriots allow me to retire, I will gladly retire. I have only one desire, the utmost desire, which is to make our country completely independent, our people completely free, everyone has food to eat, clothes to wear, everyone can study.

As for me, I will build a small house, where there are green mountains and blue water to fish, grow flowers, and be friends with the old people gathering firewood and the young people herding buffalo, not involved in the circle of fame and profit.

2– In a democratic country, everyone has freedom to believe and freedom to organize. But because of circumstances and responsibilities, I have to stand outside of all parties. Now I only have one belief in an independent nation. If there is a need for a party, it will be the Vietnamese National Party. That party will have only one goal of making our nation completely independent.

The members of that party will be all Vietnamese citizens, except for traitors and corrupt people.

I sincerely hope that foreign scholars and compatriots in the country will understand.
